Comox Valley Piano Society Music Awards
The CVPS will present awards based on the amount of money available in any year. It reserves the right to split the amount available into several awards upon recommendation of the music awards committee. The awards committee, at its discretion, may also choose not to present an award in any given year.
Eligibility
- The student must have completed requirements, practical and theory, for Level (6 – 10) in the current or previous year of application and be continuing with his/her musical studies.
- The student must have a parent or teacher who is a member of the CVPS
- The award should be used to further the student’s musical studies and /or understandings (e.g. theory courses, Music lessons, music camps, concert admission, books/recordings).
- A student may receive this award only once in each Level (6 – 10).

ANNOUNCEMENT AND PRESENTATION OF MUSIC AWARDS:
All applicants will be notified of the results of their application by the end of April,. Teachers of the awarded applicants will distribute the Comox Valley Piano Society Music Awards.
Shirley Fletcher Memorial Book Award
Shirley Fletcher, founding member and very active member of the CV Piano Society, bequeathed to the Society funds from which the CV Piano Society will administer annual music book awards (total of $100). We are very pleased that over the years, many students will be able to study from, enjoy and be inspired by a book that they have received in remembrance of a great piano teacher, Shirley Fletcher.
Administration of the Shirley Fletcher Memorial Book Awards:
- Each CVPS music teacher will nominate one student from their studio for the award
- Student may be of any level of study
- Each teacher may set his/her own criteria for nomination
- Teacher is to indicate a book and price (up to value of $50) with the nomination
- A random draw will determine the winners
- All books will be ordered from Long & McQuade
- The book awards will be purchased by the CVPS and will be distributed by the teacher of the recipients

Comox Valley Piano Society Financial Aid Bursary
Guidelines:
The purpose of this bursary is to provide funds for students in financial need. Funds can be used for exam fees, lesson costs, music books, travel to provincials, festival fees, summer music camps, or other musical endeavours.
This is a privately awarded Bursary, and will not be included in our public awards ceremony at the year end recital. It is at the Piano Society’s discretion to decide on amounts and allocations of funds from year to year.
Application:
To apply for this bursary both the teacher and the student/parent needs to provide a letter. The letter should outline the musical pursuits of the student, as well as what the funds would be used for. You may apply for any amount. If you are selected, the Piano Society will decide on the amount you are awarded. This amount could be all of the funds requested or a partial amount.
To receive funds, the Piano Society will directly pay the teacher, exam amount etcetera. If this is not possible, the student or teacher can provide receipts from the expense and be reimbursed.
